AVIA Senior Living Holiday CardsMy name is Kimberly Johnson, and I am the Resident Services Director at AVIA Senior Living! I am so excited to share with you weekly some of the happenings here at AVIA!

AVIA is gearing up for Christmas! Last week, we made Christmas Cards! It was fun to get our creative juices flowing and make something by hand to share with friends and family! We had a great time gathering together as a group making cards! Here is an example of our handiwork…

We will work on more beautiful cards this week!

Kicking it Old School with a Thrift Store Christmas!!!

I love handmade gifts. I also love repurposed gifts! I found a great article on repurposing thrift store finds to create amazing Christmas or Anytime Gifts! Enjoy these ideas from Premeditated Leftovers.

Whether you are trying to do Christmas on a budget, a homemade Christmas, or a zero-waste holiday presents, you will find many clever thrift store Christmas gift ideas below to help you with your goals.

Thrift shopping is a great way to save money year-round. You can get children’s clothing cheaply, housewares, and even furniture. Just about anything you need for your home (besides food of course) can be bought at the thrift store. Did you ever consider doing your Christmas shopping there, though? For most people, giving used gifts is a social no-no; however, if you are crafty or just know where to look, you can get incredible thrift store gifts! Here is your guide to turning thrift store finds into Christmas Gifts…

Mason Jars Gift Ideas

There really are so many things you can do with these thrift shop staples. You can make cookie and brownie mix in jars and tie them with a pretty ribbon and label. You could make some homemade sugar scrubs and place them in the jars as well. Here are 15 Gift in Jar Ideas.

Make Candles in Teacups and Sugar Bowls

One great use for old teacups, especially the elegant vintage kind, is to make candles out of them. These make awesome gifts that are truly unique. Check out my tutorial on making Teacup Candles for inspiration. Here are directions for making a Sugar Bowl Candle.

Upcycle Old Frames

These are a thrift store lover’s favorite find. You never know what you will get when you hunt through the frames and paintings section. You can turn these into framed chalkboards or paint them white and decoupage family photos onto one. Here is how to make a Dry Erase Calendar from a Vintage Frame.

Creative Ideas for Old Games

You can use pieces from old games to make custom items for someone who loves that game. Glue a game piece to the top of a jar and fill it with candy. Or use game pieces to make custom jewelry. Here are directions for How to Make Wine Glass Marker with Scrabble Tiles.

Home Cooked

Our on-site chefs are a marvel!  Providing healthy, nutritious, and tasty food is something we pride ourselves on here at AVIA!  I have received so many compliments today about Lafayette’s Sunday Meatloaf Dinner that I must share the recipe!
